CALGARY, October 19, 2021 – BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions has received registration from Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) for Sphaerex® Fungicide. Combining two powerful active ingredients, Prothioconazole and Metconazole, Sphaerex helps provide growers with management of Fusarium Head Blight (FHB), and the reduction of deoxynivalenol (DON), which can significantly impact yield and negatively alter grain quality. Sphaerex will be available for purchase for the 2022 growing season.
“We know farmers need new and innovative solutions to manage the most pressing agronomic challenges on their fields today, which is why we’re excited to announce the addition of Sphaerex to our cereal portfolio,” said Mark Shillingford, Director of Marketing, BASF Canada. “With FHB losses in Canada amounting to upwards of $300 million annually, we saw the need to provide a solution that Western Canadian growers could count on to protect against major diseases.”
Sphaerex is registered for use on wheat, barley, oats, rye and triticale crops, and provides broad spectrum protection against a wide range of diseases. The registration of Sphaerex gives Canadian growers access to a premium solution for management of the toughest diseases at head timing. With cereals representing Canada’s largest acreage, growers depend on solutions that help control leaf diseases and, in turn, promote grain quality standards and high yield.
“At BASF, we understand the significant challenges growers face when it comes to managing diseases like FHB,” said Sylvain Mialon, Brand Manager of Fungicides – Cereals & Pulses, BASF Canada. “While FHB may not be a problem one year, it can return with increased incidence and severity in the future, which is why it’s important to manage that risk in real time with leading crop management solutions. Featuring two trusted active ingredients, Sphaerex provides growers with FHB efficacy, DON management, and control of leaf diseases, supporting a strong cereal crop.”
BASF provides growers and retail and distribution customers with one of the most robust product pipelines in the industry. To learn more about Sphaerex, please visit www.agsolutions.ca.
