BASF celebrates 30 years of InVigor with three new canola hybrids added to lineup

  • New hybrids with added disease resistance, enhanced yield protection and greater weed control flexibility available for the 2027 growing season
  • Building on 30 years of technology and innovation

CALGARY, ALBERTA, July 20, 2026 – BASF Agricultural Solutions Canada is celebrating the 30th anniversary of InVigor® hybrid canola, a leading choice among Canadian farmers year after year. As part of the milestone, BASF is adding three new mid-maturing InVigor hybrids to its InVigor lineup in 2027.

The first LibertyLink InVigor hybrids – InVigor 2153, InVigor 2163 and InVigor 2273 – launched in Canada in 1997. Today, nearly three out of every five canola fields in Canada are planted with InVigor.

“We thank and celebrate Canadian farmers as we mark 30 years of InVigor. The last 30 years have been a true partnership, as InVigor has grown along with Canadian farmers, evolving with their needs as new challenges arise,” said Blaine Woycheshin, Marketing Manager, InVigor at BASF Agricultural Solutions Canada. “As the global demand for canola keeps growing, we’re committed to equipping farmers with leading-edge genetics that will help them meet that demand and help maximize yield potential on their farms.”

New InVigor canola hybrids build on legacy of success

Over the past three decades, InVigor innovation has evolved alongside Canadian farming. From specialty oil hybrids and clubroot resistance, to InVigor Earlies for shorter-season growing regions, and InVigor Choice hybrids that help provide greater weed control flexibility, InVigor has continued to develop solutions that help farmers address changing agronomic challenges.

As the next era of InVigor begins, three new hybrids are joining the lineup for 2027:

  • InVigor L342PC, a next-generation second-generation clubroot-resistant hybrid bred from a different genetic source to help growers manage evolving clubroot pressure
  • InVigor L346PC, which aims to deliver enhanced yield protection through a strong agronomic package focused on harvest flexibility, standability and disease management
  • InVigor Choice LR347PC, an advanced dual-trait hybrid offering greater flexibility in weed control

“It’s fitting to mark this 30-year milestone with the addition of three new hybrids to our lineup, as innovation has been deeply embedded in the InVigor story since the very beginning,” said Woycheshin. “Growers can count on our breeding and development teams continuing the hard work to unlock even more possibilities for InVigor hybrid canola.”

A legacy of constant innovation

For the past 30 years, InVigor has continuously advanced canola breeding to give farmers access to the InVigor hybrids that support strong performance in their region.

Since 1997, InVigor innovation has resulted in:

  • Patented Pod Shatter Reduction technology, discovered in 2000 and first launched in 2014, now featured in every InVigor canola hybrid
  • InVigor Health hybrids, which were first introduced in 2008 and produce a specialty oil profile with more heat stability and higher oleic acid content
  • InVigor clubroot-resistant hybrids, the first of which came onto the market in 2011 (InVigor L135C), protecting against the most prevalent clubroot pathotypes

“In the past year BASF has had two major achievements for InVigor: reaching 100 bu/ac at our Agronomic Excellence trial site in Cheadle, Alta., and investing $27 million into expanding our Canola Breeding Centre of Innovation in Saskatoon,” said Woycheshin. “We’re looking forward to entering the next chapter of InVigor, continuing our commitment to advancing canola for Canadian farmers.”

Growers, agronomists and retailers are invited to join BASF in marking 30 years of InVigor over the coming months. BASF will be at Ag in Motion (booth #502) in Langham, Sask., July 21-23 to kick off the celebration.
