BASF announces its ten-year outlook on agricultural innovations that support food security for future generations, while minimizing the impact of farming on the climate and the environment. The company focuses on improving agricultural outcomes in major crops, like wheat, canola, soybean, corn, cotton, rice, as well as fruits and vegetables. According to estimates from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), these crops account for more than 50% of the world’s farmland, which is why innovations applied on such a large scale have the potential to make farming even more productive and sustainable.

BASF Agricultural Solutions to launch Global Carbon Farming Program enabling farmers to reduce their CO2 emissions
With agriculture being responsible for about 20% of global CO2 emissions, carbon-efficient agricultural practices can significantly contribute to combat climate change. BASF will establish a program that allows farmers to track and profit from practices reducing CO2 emissions, underlining its efforts to contribute to fighting climate change. The Global Carbon Farming Program will support BASF Agricultural Solutions’ commitment to reduce the carbon footprint per ton of crop produced by 30% by 2030 in wheat, soy, rice, canola and corn. BASF will launch its program in phases starting in 2022.

BASF donates $65,000 on behalf of growers to help support farming communities across Western Canada
In time for Giving Tuesday, BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions (BASF) is donating a combined $65,000 to farming communities across Western Canada. BASF’s Community Challenge called on InVigor® hybrid canola growers to nominate a local organization or initiative for the chance to receive one of eight $5,000 donations, with an additional $25,000 grand prize award in celebration of InVigor hybrid canola’s 25th anniversary season.

BASF receives registration of Sphaerex Fungicide, helping provide growers with protection against cereal diseases at head timing
BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions has received registration from Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) for Sphaerex® Fungicide. Combining two powerful active ingredients, Prothioconazole and Metconazole, Sphaerex helps provide growers with management of Fusarium Head Blight (FHB), and the reduction of deoxynivalenol (DON), which can significantly impact yield and negatively alter grain quality. Sphaerex will be available for purchase for the 2022 growing season.

BASF receives registration for Veltyma Fungicide with new active ingredient Revysol
BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions has received registration from Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) for Veltyma™ Fungicide. Veltyma contains the unique active ingredient Revysol® which is the first and only Isopropanol-Azole, a unique chemistry discovered and developed by BASF, that provides broader, stronger, and longer control against various diseases on multiple crops. Veltyma will be available for purchase in the 2022 growing season.

BASF commits $250,000 for research chair in pollinator health at the University of Saskatchewan’s Western College of Veterinary Medicine
BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions (BASF) has committed $250,000 to the University of Saskatchewan’s Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) to help establish a research chair position focusing on pollinator health and biodiversity. The contribution is supporting the WCVM’s goal of raising $750,000 to form the position that will serve as an important partnership between industry stakeholders and the supply chains they mutually support.

The BASF Community Challenge returns with $65,000 in donations to support local communities across western Canada
BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions (BASF) announced the return of the BASF Community Challenge with a combined donation amount of $65,000 for communities across Western Canada. Running from September 1 to October 15, the contest calls on InVigor® hybrid canola growers to nominate a local organization or initiative for the chance to receive one of eight $5,000 donations. In celebration of InVigor hybrid canola’s 25th anniversary this coming season, BASF has added a $25,000 grand prize. A special nomination category, the $25,000 prize will be donated to the winner’s organization of choice, in recognition of the impact the organization makes in their community.

BASF Canada launches Habitat Aqua herbicide, delivering effective solution for invasive weed control
BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions has launched its herbicide Habitat® Aqua (Habitat), registered for use by Health Canada, to combat invasive weeds that threaten natural habitats across Canada. Approved for application in and around aquatic sites, Habitat provides effective control over tough-to-manage invasive species such as phragmites, cordgrasses, flowering rush and knotweeds, which continue to be problematic for the native ecosystem and cause significant damage to the surrounding area.

BASF launches Safety Scouts program to help keep children safe on the farm
BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions has launched its BASF Safety Scouts program as a fun and interactive way to support family farm safety. Through the new program, participants will receive a free safety vest and toolkit, as they prepare to take on the important role of an official Safety Scout. The program is part of BASF’s long-standing partnership with the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) and builds on the online Kids’ Safety Hub, an online resource to help farm families stay safe.

BASF receives Health Canada PMRA registration on active ingredients for two new pre-seed products
This week, BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions (BASF) received registration from Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) on the active ingredient (AI) Topramezone. The first Group 27 herbicide approved for pre-seed use in canola, Topramezone is the AI found in Certitude® – BASF’s new pre-seed herbicide that will provide canola growers with industry-leading control of kochia and volunteer canola for the upcoming 2021 growing season.

New BASF tool to control cleavers in canola for 2019
Recently, the CODEX Alimentarius Commission (CAC) formally adopted a Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) for the active ingredient quinclorac in canola. Growers can now use quinclorac products in their canola to control cleavers, one of the toughest and most impactful weeds in western Canada.
