BASF receives registration for new Veltyma DLX Fungicide in Canada, offering key leaf and ear disease control in corn

  • Veltyma DLX features the new active ingredient Revysol

CALGARY, ALBERTA, September 22, 2022 – BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions (BASF) has received registration for Veltyma® DLX fungicide. A new foliar fungicide, Veltyma DLX combines the unique active ingredient mefentrifluconazole (Revysol®) with the proven plant health benefits of pyraclostrobin and the added Fusarium activity of metconazole to provide broad spectrum management of key leaf and ear diseases in corn. Veltyma DLX will be available to Eastern Canadian corn growers for the 2023 growing season.

“Diseases like Fusarium and Gibberella ear rot continue to be the most common diseases impacting corn crops across Eastern Canada,” said Chris Vander Kant, Corn, Soybeans and Horticultural Crop Manager at BASF. “The formulation of Veltyma DLX has unique properties that help manage leaf and ear diseases and leads to better management of minor stress, better standability, increased growth efficiency and greener leaves,” continued Vander Kant.”

Through multiple modes of complementary effective action, Veltyma DLX supports disease control and resistance management while reducing deoxynivalenol (DON) contamination, preserving grade quality, and reducing pathogens that can produce mycotoxins harmful to livestock.

“In 2021, Canada saw the total corn for grain production rise slightly more than 3 per cent to 14 million tons, however, the harvested area actually fell to 3.4 million acres due to the ongoing presence of leaf and ear diseases[1],” notes Vander Kant. “Given this, we’re incredibly excited to be able to offer growers Veltyma DLX as a solution in their toolbox starting in 2023.”

In 2021 BASF Agricultural Solutions globally spent about €900 million in research and development (R&D), representing around 11 per cent of the segment’s (agriculture) sales. BASF invests in R&D to continually introduce new technology, such as Veltyma DLX, to provide one of the most robust product pipelines in the industry.
